What's the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist?
Ophthalmologists
An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) specializing in the well-being and treatment of illnesses relating to the eye (much like a cardiologist specializes in the heart, or a neurologist specializes on the nervous system). Our ophthalmologists can diagnose and treat any medical condition that affects your eyes, such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy. They also perform expert surgical procedures, such as corneal transplant, LASIK vision correction, or cataract surgery.

Optometrists
An optometrist is a certified specialist who is trained to examine your eyes for visual defects, diagnose problems or impairments, and prescribe corrective lenses or related treatments. An optometrist may also monitor progress in eye conditions, such as macular degeneration, changes related to diabetes, or an infection such as pink eye.

Our staff also includes opticians — certified specialists in fitting, adjusting, and ordering contacts lenses, frames, lenses, and glasses.
